Mexico is making strides in joining the lithium sector

A laboratory-level process has been developed to extract lithium and obtain battery-grade lithium carbonate with a purity of 99.57 percent, surpassing the 99.5 percent standard established by law, according to the Center for Research in Advanced Materials (CIMAV). Mexico has already registered a patent and established a pilot plant to produce 5 tons of the material used in batteries for electric vehicles and other devices.
A mill has been purchased to be put at the Mexican Geological Service (SGM) in its Chihuahua section, according to CIMAV.
In order to verify the technology created at pilot scale, a fluidized bed furnace is now being constructed at the Querétaro Advanced Technology Center (CIATEQ) and will be moved and placed at the SGM.
The pilot plant is designed to process five tons of ore per day.
