Juul is set to obtain U.S. regulatory approval for its e-cigarettes

The company announced to Forbes on Thursday that Juul will be granted approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its e-cigarettes. This marks a reversal of the company’s fortunes after it faced an agency marketing ban that was lifted only last year and had to pay over $300 million to consumers as part of a class action lawsuit settlement.

“The FDA decided that a marketing authorization (MGO) for the JUUL system was ‘appropriate for the protection of public health,’ the statutorily required standard for clearance,” Juul stated, following a “rigorous review of the data.”

According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, the authorization covers both Juul’s original vaping product and its tobacco and menthol refill cartridges.

Although the Department of Health and Human Services did not provide an official comment, Juul Labs was included in the list of e-cigarettes cleared by the FDA.
