To rival Instacart and Walmart, Amazon has added fresh food delivery to its services in the US

Amazon Prime members in the US can now receive same-day deliveries of strawberries, milk, meat, and frozen dinners, following the company’s announcement on Wednesday about expanding its rapid delivery service to include perishable items in hundreds of cities nationwide.
This is Amazon’s newest effort to rival the grocery delivery services provided by Walmart and Instacart.
Shoppers in over 1,000 US cities, such as Phoenix, Raleigh (NC), and Tampa (FL), will be able to get ice cream delivered to their doorstep within hours, and Amazon aims to extend this service to 2,300 cities by year-end.
The company declared in June that it would invest $4 billion to establish same-day and next-day delivery services in over 4,000 rural communities across the United States by year’s end.
Up to this point, grocery orders for Prime subscribers were made via Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. The extra service will now process orders using its fulfillment centers for same-day delivery.
For Prime members, who pay $14.99 monthly or $149 annually, same-day delivery is free for orders exceeding $25. The membership service Walmart+ from Walmart is priced at $98 annually and provides same-day delivery in under three hours, with some orders reaching customers in as little as 30 minutes.
