By taxing violent video games, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) hopes to generate 183 million pesos in 2026.
The 2026 Federal Expenditure Budget, which was presented to the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies by Edgar Amador Zamora, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), states that «a special ad valorem tax of 8 percent on the provision of digital video game services with violent content is proposed.»
The article claims that new research has connected playing violent video games to increased aggression in teenagers as well as detrimental social and psychological impacts including anxiety and loneliness.
