As the rivalry for AI data centers heats up, Nvidia plans to invest $100 billion in OpenAI

In a cooperation between two of the most well-known leaders in the global artificial intelligence race, chipmaker Nvidia announced Monday that it will contribute up to $100 billion to OpenAI and supply it with data center chips.

According to a person close to OpenAI, the purchase will comprise two distinct but connected transactions, with Nvidia starting chip deliveries by the end of 2026.

When the two businesses come to a final agreement for OpenAI to buy Nvidia chips, Nvidia’s investment in OpenAI, which was recently valued at $500 billion, will start with the first $10 billion.

A historic strategic cooperation was inked by the two businesses to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia chips for OpenAI’s AI infrastructure.

With the first phase of implementation scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026, they hope to finalize the partnership’s details in the upcoming weeks.
