Apple halts the Vision Pro review to focus on smart glasses

Apple halted a planned overhaul of its Vision Pro mixed reality headset to redirect resources toward smart glasses that would compete with Meta Platforms‘ products, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The iPhone maker had been preparing a cheaper, lighter variant of its headset, known by the code name N100, for release in 2027, according to Bloomberg. However, the company informed staff internally last week that it is reassigning employees from that project to accelerate work on the glasses.
The $3,499 Vision Pro, which was debuted to much fanfare in February 2024, has struggled to retain momentum due to a lack of substantial content and competition from lower-cost devices such as the Meta Quest.
Apple is developing at least two types of smart glasses, according to the report. The first, the N50, will work with an iPhone and will not have its own display.
The second version, with a screen, is scheduled for 2028, but Apple is now aiming to speed up development of this product, which might compete with Meta Ray-Ban Display, according to the source.
