Anthropic’s Claude model will be powered by an AI infrastructure project launched by Amazon

The artificial intelligence company Anthropic will use over a million processors from the infrastructure by the end of the year, according to Amazon, which announced the beginning of its Rainier computing cluster project on Wednesday.

Project Rainier, an AI computer cluster spread across many US data centers, was initiated by the tech giant last year. Almost half a million Amazon Trainium2 processors are used in the computer.

As AI models advance, cloud companies such as Amazon Web Services are expanding their data center plans to meet the growing need for massive computing capacity.

Anthropic, backed by Amazon, is using the Rainier Project computing cluster to build and deploy its Claude AI model. The AI company will scale up to use more than 1 million Trainium2 chips on Amazon Web Services by the end of this year.

Rainier’s computing power will also be used for future versions of Claude, Amazon said.
