AI will at least outsmart the most intelligent human by 2026: Musk
While the lack of chips has been a key barrier to the development of AI thus far, he believes that in the next two years, the availability of power will be critical.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, made a prediction on Monday stating that it is possible that artificial intelligence (AI) technology would surpass human intellect by 2026 or next year.
In a lengthy interview on the social network X spaces that saw numerous technological setbacks, Musk also revealed to Nicolai Tangen, CEO of a Norwegian wealth fund, that artificial intelligence (AI) was constrained by the availability of electricity and that the upcoming Grok, his startup xAI’s AI chatbot, should be available in May.
«If you define AGI (artificial general intelligence) as smarter than the smartest human being, I think that will probably be next year, two years from now,» Musk said when asked about the timeline for AGI development.
The millionaire, who also co-founded OpenAI, saw that Grok’s version 2 model was having difficulty being trained due to a shortage of sophisticated processors.
Musk founded xAI last year to challenge OpenAI, which he sued for abandoning its original mission to develop AI for the benefit of humanity and not-for-profit. OpenAI denies the allegations.
