How Bluesky challenges Elon Musk’s X

Bluesky

Billionaire Mark Cuban, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and author Stephen King are all currently on Bluesky. Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, created the social media network as a side project within the company in 2019.

Bluesky, which is no longer linked with Dorsey, is now its own firm, and following the US election, the platform received an influx of new users, the majority of whom were looking to leave X. Bluesky now has more than 28 million members, according to the business.

Bluesky looks and feels a lot like the old Twitter. Users can create brief postings that incorporate a photo or a short video. They can also respond to others’ posts by commenting, liking, or reposting. Users’ feeds include the individuals they follow, as well as any other feeds they want to subscribe to. However, unlike traditional social media platforms, Bluesky is supposed to be decentralized, giving users more control over their data and the material they view or do not see.

Bluesky does not now host adverts, as most social media platforms do, but its leadership has not ruled out the idea of doing so in the future.

But creating a social networking platform is no easy task. As Bluesky has evolved, it has faced a rise in impostor accounts and scammers, as have many other platforms. Bluesky recently said that customers submitted 6.48 million reports to their moderation service in 2024, compared to 358,000 in 2023. Watch the video to learn more about Bluesky’s rapid growth and the obstacles it faces in an increasingly fragmented social media market.
