The largest launch pad in the world will be located in Louisiana, according to SpaceX

SpaceX announced plans on Tuesday to build a launch site for Starship in southern Louisiana—which CEO Elon Musk described as «the largest launch site on Earth.» Thereby expanding the rocket manufacturer’s operations with a $100 billion investment.

In a joint announcement with Governor Jeff Landry and other Louisiana state officials. SpaceX unveiled plans to build a 125,000-acre facility in Vermilion Parish, along the state’s Gulf Coast.

Construction of the site—dubbed Starbase, Louisiana—is set to begin in 2027, with plans for the first Starship launch in 2029, according to SpaceX. The company stated that the facility will be designed to «support thousands of SpaceX flights per year» and serve as the rocket’s primary launch base.

According to SpaceX, the facility will be a «self-sufficient spaceport» with power generation, propellant production, «deep-water maritime transport capability, vehicle processing facilities,» and an airport.

With a commitment to invest at least $100 billion and generate over 3,000 new employment at the site. SpaceX stated that it will use «the extensive experience of Louisiana workers in building complex infrastructure in their unique environment» and engage in «mass hiring» in surrounding areas.

Musk claimed that the project would create «probably 10,000 really exciting jobs» in Louisiana in a video that accompanied SpaceX’s announcement.

As part of the project, SpaceX declared that it will work to rebuild Vermilion Parish’s coastline, which the firm claims is eroding at a rate of up to 23 feet per year. The business intends to engage with state and federal agencies to complete this mission.
