Donald Trump named ‘Time’ magazine’s ‘Person of the Year for 2024

US President-elect Donald Trump was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year 2024, “for staging a comeback of historic proportions, driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment and reshaping the American presidency.”

The 78-year-old Republican businessman, winner of last November 5 election, was also Time’s Person of the Year in 2016, the year he also won the presidential election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

As explained on the X network by Sam Jacobs, editor-in-chief of Time, this time it was not difficult to choose who was “the individual who, for better or worse, did the most to shape the world and the headlines over the past 12 months,” something the magazine has been doing for 97 years.

“Since he began running for president in 2015, perhaps no one has played a bigger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump,” it adds.

In addition to Trump, Time’s list of ten finalists for “person of the year” 2024 included Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was defeated by the now president-elect in the Nov. 5 election.
