Concacaf rejects proposal on sale of participations in the World Cup; Mexico says it will review the plan

During a meeting on Thursday, the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) rejected FIFA’s proposal to sell World Cup berths, but it did not follow UEFA’s plan to boycott the international competition. Meanwhile, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) stated that it would examine the proposal before making a decision.
The 41 member associations of the regional bloc for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean said they had «deep concerns» about the proposal’s lack of due process, its short timeline, and FIFA’s key governing bodies’ lack of assessment or approval.
Mexican Football Federation (FMF) subsequently claimed that FIFA had notified them of the idea on July 28 and that, before to reaching a decision, it will have a number of roundtables to give member associations more information and supporting material.
In a statement the federation stated , «The FMF will complete this process of study and analysis to make the decision that best serves the development of Mexican football,» but it did not say whether it agreed with Concacaf’s decision to turn down the idea.
