Netflix announces with Sheinbaum investment of $1 billion dollars to produce 20 movies a year in Mexico

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos revealed Thursday at President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning briefing that the firm will invest $1 billion in Mexico to develop 20 movies and series per year for the next four years.

“President Sheinbaum, at Netflix we share your vision of a vibrant and prosperous Mexico, full of growth and opportunities, and we want to contribute to making it a reality, which is why today I am pleased to announce that Netflix will invest $1 billion for the production of series and movies in Mexico,” he said.
The executive highlighted that Mexico “occupies a special place in the history of Netflix”, since 10 years ago it produced ‘Club de Cuervos’ in the country, the first production of the platform outside the United States.
He also boasted about the production of ‘Roma’, by Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón, the first Netflix and Mexican film to win the Oscar for ‘Best Foreign Film’.
He also stated that since Netflix’s debut in Mexico City, about 300,000 jobs have been created, as «it really is an industry that boosts the economy tremendously.»
«It is not only that (Mexico) is made known to the world through Netflix series, which is very important for Mexico to be seen in the world, but also all the economic development and the number of jobs that are generated by production and tourism, obviously,» she said.
