Salesforce will invest $8 billion to acquire Informatica in order to strengthen AI data technologies

In an attempt to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence sector, U.S. CRM software company Salesforce said on Tuesday that it will pay $8 billion to acquire Informatica.
After years of remaining out of the market, the cloud computing giant is now making a comeback to high-profile mergers and acquisitions due to pressure from activist investors seeking higher returns.
Negotiations with Informatica were halted last year when the parties could not agree on the conditions of the contract.
Salesforce will double down on its AI-powered products and expand its data management tools with the acquisition of Informatica, its largest move since acquiring Slack Technologies for around $28 billion in 2021.
As a crucial step in its quest to further incorporate generative AI into its products, the agreement would also enable Salesforce to increase control over the management and use of company data.
