Major European markets saw a decline in Tesla sales in May as the new Model Y was delivered

In May, Tesla’s sales in Britain, Germany, and Italy declined for the fifth consecutive month, underscoring the difficulties the electric vehicle manufacturer has as a result of Elon Musk’s policies and model lineup.
According to a representative for the British company, demand for the company’s new Model Y, which is the best-selling vehicle in Europe through 2023, will increase sales in June when deliveries start in the United Kingdom.
Sales of Tesla fell in China and certain European regions as consumers chose Chinese EVs due to their lower costs and, in some situations, in opposition to Musk’s political actions.
However, the new Model Y, whose deliveries the company has already started, increased sales in Norway. Other European markets will start receiving deliveries of the new electric car this month.
A U.K. Tesla representative claimed in an email that the company’s May sales drop was due to the selling of its older Model Y inventory while it awaited the new model from its Berlin production.
According to the spokesman, Tesla has been «comfortably accepting customer orders» for the new Model Y in the United Kingdom, «and an increase» in its June sales is anticipated.
