The US public sector will see a record investment from Amazon

In one of the biggest cloud infrastructure promises ever made to the public sector, Amazon announced on Monday that it will invest up to $50 billion to enhance artificial intelligence and supercomputing capabilities for U.S. government clients.
With new data centers outfitted with cutting-edge networking and computing technologies, the project, which is anticipated to start in 2026. Would bring about 1.3 gigawatts of new AI and high-performance computing capacity throughout the AWS Top Secret, AWS Secret, and AWS GovCloud regions.
Approximately 750,000 typical American houses may be powered by one gigawatt of processing power.
According to Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services, «this investment removes the technological barriers that have held back government agencies.»
With over 11,000 government entities, AWS is already one of the top cloud service providers for the US government.
The demand for the processing power required for these services is being driven by the billions of dollars. That tech companies like OpenAI, Alphabet, and Microsoft are spending on developing AI infrastructure.
The goal of Amazon’s program is to give government agencies more access to an extensive range of AWS AI services. These include basic models like Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude, Amazon Bedrock for deploying AI models and agents, and Amazon SageMaker for model training and customization.
