Musk reconsiders purchasing Ryanair, an Irish airline

In a series of posts on X on Monday afternoon, Elon Musk publicly enquired about the prospect of purchasing Irish low-cost airline Ryanair. This was his most recent indication that he might think considering purchasing the faltering business.

Musk asked Ryanair, «How much would it cost to buy them?» in response to a clever post on X by the airline that seemed to be against installing Wi-Fi in its aircraft. «I really want to put a Ryan in charge of Ryan Air,» he continued. You are destined for it.

Shortly after, he asked people in a poll on his X page if he ought to purchase the business.

The poll received little over 300,000 votes just before 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time), with 79% of users answering in the yes.

Musk uses SpaceX’s Starlink satellites to market in-flight Wi-Fi services.

Since Ryanair Holdings plc is a publicly traded company, Musk would have to either conduct a hostile takeover or submit a tender offer to shareholders in order to take over.

“I wouldn’t pay any attention to Elon Musk, he’s an idiot,” Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said in a podcast late last week, sparking Musk’s fury. “Very rich, but still an idiot.”

Between $200 million and $250 million a year. That’s the annual cost of installing the aerial antenna needed to access Starlink satellites on an airplane, according to O’Leary, who described Musk’s services as unaffordable.
