According to the CEO of Amazon, tariffs are beginning to raise goods prices

The CEO of the digital giant, Andy Jassy, told CNBC on Tuesday that Amazon is starting to witness a rise in the prices of its products on its e-commerce platform as sellers react to cost constraints resulting from US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

In order to prevent unexpected increases in shipping costs brought on by tariffs, the company pushed forward its inventory shipments early last year and encouraged third-party sellers to bring in more stock ahead of time. However, «that supply ran out in the fall,» Jassy stated in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“We are beginning to see how some tariffs are reflected in some prices. Some sellers are deciding to pass those higher costs on to consumers, others are deciding to absorb them to boost demand, and others are doing something in between. So we are beginning to see a greater impact,” Jassy said.

Even so, consumers have been largely resilient, continuing to shop and look for deals, Jassy said, adding that shoppers are “a little more hesitant” when it comes to making higher-priced discretionary purchases.

“Overall, Amazon consumers have done well. But we’ll have to see what happens in 2026.”
