The head of Instagram will testify in court regarding app design and the mental health of young people

On Wednesday, the CEO of Instagram will be questioned in court for the first time. Over whether the layout of the Meta-owned app is contributing to a youth mental health problem.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri is scheduled to testify in Los Angeles as part of a lawsuit about what the plaintiffs refer to as «social media addiction» in children and youth. In the upcoming weeks, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, is also anticipated to testify.
According to court documents, the 20-year-old lady in the case stated that Instagram’s visually appealing. The design caused her to develop an addiction to the platform at an early age.
How social media companies react to hundreds of similar claims in the US will be influenced by the outcome of her case.
Before Mosseri’s testimony, a Meta representative issued a statement saying, «We strongly disagree with these allegations. They´re confident that the evidence will demonstrate our longstanding commitment to supporting young people.»
According to court documents, the California woman claimed in a statement that Instagram’s «infinite» scroll feature kept her using the app and exacerbated her anxiety.
Children’s access to social media has become a global concern, and in December, Australia became the first country to outlaw the use of these sites by those under the age of sixteen. Several nations are contemplating similar measures, including France, Spain, Greece, and the United Kingdom.
