Joshua Kushner and the former CEO of Disney intend to bid for an NBA team in Las Vegas

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and venture capitalist Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Reportedly in negotiations to make a bid for a new Las Vegas-based NBA team, according to Bloomberg.

The proposal will be for a controlling ownership in the team, according to Bloomberg, which cited unidentified sources familiar with Iger and Kushner’s plans. However, specifics regarding the new franchise’s worth are yet unknown.

In April, the league’s board of governors decided to approve an expansion plan to “formally explore.” The prospect of adding new teams in Las Vegas and Seattle. The vote indicated the board’s interest in a possible expansion into «two markets with a long history of supporting NBA basketball,» according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Although Silver said last week that the NBA hopes to have the two new teams make their debut in the 2028–29 season, the statement did not provide a schedule.

Interested in Las Vegas NBA Team

LeBron James, the top player for the Los Angeles Lakers, had previously indicated interest in purchasing a share in a prospective Las Vegas team. James stated, «I want a team in Las Vegas,» during a 2022 talk show episode. The team in Las Vegas is what I desire. But when asked if he was still interested in March of this year, James said, «No, I’m not.» Not at all.

The wealthy owner of the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team, Bill Foley, declared last week that he will make a bid for the new Las Vegas franchise. NBA great Magic Johnson, who visited with Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and other officials in an attempt to make a formal proposal, is another possible bidder.
