Amazon announces investment of $5 billion dollars in Querétaro for the development of a data center
Amazon will invest $5 billion in Querétaro to build a data center, contributing $10 billion to Mexico’s GDP over the next 15 years beginning in 2025, and creating more than 7,000 jobs per year, according to Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard.
During President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning conference, Paula Bellizia, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) for Latin America, stated that AWS is the cloud computing service that powers, among other things, medical analysis processing, videoconferencing services, every online purchase, every banking transaction, and even every movie watched on live streaming platforms.
The CEO promised that the stated investment is much more than just the development of cutting-edge data centers; it is a clear and long-term commitment to the country’s socioeconomic prosperity and digital future for all Mexicans.
He added that the establishment of an AWS region will make a tangible contribution to the improvement of a country as diverse, complex, and large as Mexico, because, in addition to technological infrastructure, its vision is to be a catalyst for national progress, with many benefits, including a contribution of more than 10,000 million dollars to the national GDP and the support of highly qualified and full-time jobs.
He stated that AWS will continue to train Mexican talent and will work with educational institutions in the country with a national presence, such as the National College of Technical Professional Education (Conalep) and the National Technological Institute of Mexico (Tecnológico Nacional de México).
