Alsea signs an agreement with Chipotle to open locations in Mexico

Mexican firm Alsea said Monday it signed an agreement with U.S.-based Chipotle Mexican Grill to open restaurants in Mexico and explore additional markets in the region.

Alsea said it expects to open the first restaurant in Mexico in early 2026, according to a statement, adding that the agreement is aligned with the fast food and restaurant operator’s long-term strategy in Latin America and Europe.

The entry into Mexico represents a relevant turn of events for the U.S. chain, given that it is the country of origin of the gastronomy that inspires its concept. Through the alliance with Alsea, it will seek to leverage the local operating experience of the Mexican group to adapt to the market.

The agreement adds to Alsea’s efforts to consolidate its position as the leading restaurant operator in Latin America. The company has focused its growth on brands with regional expansion potential and high affinity with the urban consumer.
