Subway names ex-Burger King executive as CEO

Subway, the U.S. sandwich chain, appointed Jonathan Fitzpatrick, a former Burger King executive, as its CEO effective July 28. The move aims to leverage Fitzpatrick’s fast-food industry experience to boost sales and support global business expansion.

Fitzpatrick’s most recent role was as president and CEO of Driven Brands, an automotive services company. Before that, he occupied multiple leadership roles at Burger King, such as executive vice president and chief brand and operations officer.

About two years ago, Subway, which operates close to 37,000 restaurants globally, was acquired by private equity firm Roark Capital in a deal that valued the company at up to $9.55 billion, debt included.

Fitzpatrick takes over from John Chidsey, who resigned at the end of last year after leading for five years.
The firm announced that Fitzpatrick will collaborate with interim CEO Carrie Walsh throughout the transition period.
