Nvidia rejects Samuel García’s $1 billion investment in Nuevo León

Hours after Governor Samuel García hailed the US business Nvidia’s plans to construct an environmentally friendly Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in Nuevo León, the company disputed that it would invest $1 billion in the city.

Nvidia has no plans for financial investment in Nuevo León. The company’s support for digital transformation and technological progress in Latin America is based exclusively on cooperation, research, and talent development initiatives,” the firm said in a statement to Reuters.

In a social media post earlier in the day, Governor García announced that Nvidia would invest $1 billion to construct an artificial intelligence-focused green data center. Alongside Nvidia representatives, García announced in a video message that was shared on social media.

The identity of the Nvidia representatives and the reason behind their failure to dispute the governor’s assertion were not immediately apparent. When Reuters asked Nvidia about these problems and the future of the purported data center, Nvidia did not immediately reply.

A request for comment was not immediately answered by the state government of Nuevo Leon.
