Glass bottling facilities are closing after the boycott of Bud Light hit sales, leaving 600 workers without jobs

Sales of Bud Light have been declining, and this affects more than just the beer company.

Two glass bottling operations, one in North Carolina and one in Louisiana, will be shut down, according to a recent announcement by the world’s largest glass manufacturer, Ardagh Group.

According to WRAL-TV, around 645 workers would lose their jobs as a result of the shutdown of these two plants.

In April, Bud Light collaborated with 10.7 million TikTok followers and transgender social media celebrity Dylan Mulvaney. The partnership sparked a reaction on social media and prompted some beer drinkers to boycott it.

According to consulting firm Bump Williams using information from NielsenIQ, Bud Light sales in the US fell 28% in the week ending June 24 compared to the same week last year.

The share price of Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD) has also decreased. Mulvaney started promoting the beer on social media on April 1, and since then, BUD stock has dropped 16%, losing billions of dollars in market capitalization.
