Nvidia invests $2 billion in Marvell as rivalry is fueled by the expanding use of AI

In an attempt to facilitate customers’ adoption of the custom AI chips that the smaller firm creates using Nvidia’s networking technology and core CPUs, Nvidia spent $2 billion in Marvell Technology.

Tuesday saw a 2.7% boost in Nvidia’s stock and a nearly 7% increase in Marvel’s.

At a time when some businesses are choosing to use bespoke processors rather as Nvidia’s pricey core processors, the company hopes to maintain its central position to satisfy the increasing computational demands of AI technologies.

With an emphasis on optical interconnects and silicon photonics technology, which permits fast, energy-efficient data transfer, the firms will develop cutting-edge AI networking solutions.

The AI chip leader will provide supporting technologies, such as central processor units, network interface cards, and interconnects, while Marvell will provide specialized chips and networking solutions compatible with Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion.

It is anticipated that major tech firms like Alphabet and Meta would spend at least $630 billion on AI infrastructure this year. This will increase demand for server chips and networking hardware, which will help businesses like Marvell.

According to Marvell, it anticipates that in fiscal year 2028, its revenue will increase by about 40% to $15 billion.
