The FCC demands a thorough examination of foreign investment in the Warner Bros. acquisition

On Tuesday, the lone Democrat on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) demanded that foreign ownership stakes in the proposed Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger be thoroughly examined.
The foreign investments supporting Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery were requested by the FCC last month.
There are «serious, unresolved questions about how this foreign investment could jeopardize national security, and this commission has a legal obligation to answer them,» according to FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez.
According to her, the agreement entails the investment of sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi in a business that would be in charge of major cable news networks like CNN and CBS stations.
