Grupo Carso announced that it has reached a binding agreement with TotalEnergies to acquire its entire stake in oil block 30 in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico, where the KAN field is located.

The company explained that TotalEnergies’ stake in the block, located in the Salina del Istmo Basin, represents 30%, with the remaining 30% held by the operator and titleholder, Harbour Energy.

Zamajal, a Carso company dedicated on hydrocarbon exploration and production, will handle the acquisition.

Getting the necessary regulatory clearances is a prerequisite to concluding the deal.

Block 30 is a production-sharing contract for hydrocarbon exploration in shallow waters with a total area of 30.5 square kilometers for the extraction of light oil, Carso explained in a statement to investors.

The block was given to the group made up of Premier Oil, Deutsche Erdoel Mexico (now Harbour Energy), and Sep Block 30 (now TotalEnergies) for a 25-year tenure by the then National Hydrocarbons Commission in April 2018 after an international public tender.
