Warner and Paramount have agreed to delay their merger until June 2027

Media conglomerate Paramount Skydance agreed Friday to freeze its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery until June of next year while U.S. courts review a lawsuit filed by 12 states alleging the deal creates a monopoly.

“The transaction in question will not be closed, consummated, or otherwise completed, and the defendants will not take any action, directly or indirectly. This to integrate or consolidate their operations pursuant to the transaction until the merits of these lawsuits are determined or until June 1, 2027,” stated the document filed by Paramount in California court.

The defendants will suspend the $110 billion merger unless a judge rules before the date (June 2027). On the merits of the lawsuits filed by state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America.

Merger until 2027

Defendants will suspend the $110 billion merger unless a judge rules before the date (June 2027). On which the merits of the lawsuits filed by state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America are resolved.

Organization, which has about 20,000 members, claimed that the contentious merger will result in significant job losses and that «screenwriters will be paid less and have fewer job opportunities.»

In the meanwhile, the European Commission approved Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, subject to Paramount taking specific steps to avoid problems with competition in the European Economic Area’s film distribution.
