Elon Musk announces that he will provide every child in the U.S. with a share of SpaceX stock

On Monday, Elon Musk declared his intention to provide each child in the United States with one share of his aerospace and artificial intelligence firm. SpaceX, next year—just after he criticized a proposal from his competitor, Anthropic. To allocate 5% of its shares to a public-benefit fund, urging the company to give its shares to the public directly instead.
In a Monday morning post on X, Musk stated: “Next year, I will distribute one of my SpaceX shares to every child in America.” Noting that this would be the “first of many.”
The richest person in the world provided no specifics on when in 2027 he would allocate the shares, the criteria for eligibility, or the method of transferring them to millions of American kids.
Last month, the Department of the Treasury broadened the “Trump Accounts” initiative to permit donations of individual company shares; however, both parents and children must retain the donated shares for five years.
It is still uncertain if Musk’s commitment is connected to the Trump administration’s investment accounts for kids.
On Sunday, Anthropic declared that it would allocate a minimum of 5% of its shares to a newly established Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. The fund will be a “fully owned limited liability company,” and the developer of Claude mentioned that it will have the capacity to make significant contributions to non-profit entities or offer “direct distributions” to targeted groups.
Musk seemed to disapprove of the decision on X, posting to Anthropic: “I suggest providing the shares straight to the public.” About 12 hours later, the billionaire declared a commitment of his SpaceX shares. But it is still uncertain if this was premeditated or a reaction to Anthropic’s announcement.
