Banorte’s loan portfolio drove a 20% increase in net profit to 15,660 million pesos

Grupo Financiero Banorte (GFNorte) ended the third quarter of 2026 with a net profit of 15,658 million pesos. Which was 1% higher than the quarter before and 20% higher than the same period the previous year.
Placement was the primary driver of this increase, with the overall credit portfolio rising 11% yearly to 1.33 trillion pesos. The secret, according to Carlos Hank González, head of the organization’s board of directors, has been to combine digitalization and physical expansion.
The manager emphasized that customer trust continues to drive acquisition, saying, «We continue to expand our presence in Mexico with more branches and at the same time, promoting technological innovation to build a bank that is increasingly closer, accessible, and capable of responding to the needs of Mexican families.»
During the first nine months of the year, internal diversification was also important. The most dynamic areas were Afore (pension fund management), which increased by 11%, and the pensions business. Which increased by 31%, despite a 7% increase in net profit for commercial banking.
Mexican households continued to demand funding in terms of loan portfolios. The consumer category increased by 9% to 567.462 billion pesos, mostly due to a 23% increase in auto loans.
While mortgage lending expanded at a more modest rate of 6%, payroll loans and credit cards also saw double-digit increases (11% and 10%, respectively).
On the corporate and government side, the public sector led the way with a 14% increase. Followed by the commercial portfolio (13%) and the corporate portfolio (11%). Even lending to SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) saw a 7% rebound, benefiting from more refined origination filters that keep risk in check.
