720,000 BMW cars are being recalled due to a potentially fire-prone water pump link

As per a regulatory document posted on Tuesday, BMW is recalling over 720,000 vehicles due to a water pump connector that has the potential to short circuit, hence raising the danger of fire. This is the automaker’s latest warning, following the recall of hundreds of thousands of other cars last month.

The recall affects some cars manufactured between 2012 and 2017, including BMW X1 xDrive28i, Gran Turismo, X3 sDrive28i and X4 xDrive28i vehicles, among others, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration .

The cars are equipped with a water pump that, due to insufficient sealing, could be susceptible to leaking fluid onto an electrical connector, potentially causing a short circuit and increasing the risk of fire.

Although the carmaker has not received any reports of accidents or injuries, the NHTSA stated that BMW was aware of around 18 customer complaints, concerns, or field cases that may be connected to the fault in the United States.

BMW stated that dealers will check and repair the water pump and plug connector at no cost to customers if necessary, and that it would begin notifying affected drivers on October 4.

1.606.083. Based on NHTSA data, BMW has recalled that many cars in 21 notifications so far this year.
