American automakers may face tariffs of up to $12,000 per vehicle

American automaker tariff

A Michigan economic consulting group said Thursday that automakers will continue to face a tariff impact of between $2,000 and $12,000 per vehicle, even though the White House is trying to moderate trade levies on imported auto parts.

According to Anderson Economic Group, U.S.-assembled vehicles such as Honda’s Civic and Odyssey, General Motors’ Chevy Malibu, Toyota’s Camry Hybrid and Ford’s Explorer will be hit between $2,000 and $3,000.

The figure could increase to $10,000 to $12,000 for imported vehicles, including full-size luxury SUVs, some electric vehicles and others assembled in Europe and Asia, such as the Mercedes G-Wagon, Land Rover and Range Rover models, some BMW models and the Ford Mach-E.
