In 2025, record bank earnings are driven by BBVA, Santander, and Banorte. Due mostly to the success of companies like BBVA, Santander, and Banamex, Mexico’s commercial banks ended 2025 with record earnings.

The National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) reports that banks made 304.4 billion pesos in earnings, which is a record amount that represents 1.10% real growth from the end of 2024.

The banking sector appears to be doing well in a difficult economic climate, as evidenced by the fact that total deposits increased by 2.03% in real terms from the previous year to reach 9.6 trillion pesos at the end of 2025.

BBVA continued to be the primary profit-generating entity in the breakdown by institution. With 2.2 trillion pesos in total deposits, the Spanish bank, headed by Eduardo Osasuna in Mexico, contributed 98.946 billion pesos, a real year-over-year growth of 2.44%.

Under the leadership of businessman Carlos Hank Gónzalez, Banorte drew 1.27 trillion pesos, a 5.18% gain in this sector, and made 47.38 billion pesos in profits, a 0.87% increase.

Santander Bank, under the leadership of Felipe García Ascenço, contributed 32.329 billion pesos and saw the largest percentage rise in this category, at 9.08% over the prior year. Its total deposits increased by 0.79% to 1.11 trillion pesos.
