Apple is negotiating to produce chips in the US with Samsung and Intel

Apple held preliminary discussions about the possibility of using Samsung Electronics and Intel to produce the primary processors for its products.

In addition to visiting a Samsung factory under development in Texas, Apple executives reportedly had initial talks with Intel regarding hiring the company to manufacture chips.

According to the story, Apple is worried about employing third-party technology because of issues with size and dependability, even if this step would give the company an alternative to its long-standing partner, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).

Apple warned of ongoing chip supply constraints when it reported its earnings last month. iPhone sales were held back during the quarter by supply restrictions on the advanced processor chips that form the device’s brain, said then-CEO Tim Cook.

The chips in the iPhone 17 family are manufactured using a variant of the same TSMC chip manufacturing technology found in many leading AI chips.
