The war in Iran has caused container rental prices to skyrocket by 50%

Containers rental prices

According to Roberto Martín Meillon Covarrubias, head of the Mexican Association of Shipping Agents (Amanac), container rental prices. Which are utilized in international trade, have increased by more than 50% as a result of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran.

He stated, «about 50 percent higher—I quoted a 40-foot container in March at $2,000, and by April it was $3,000.» During the announcement of Amanac’s 2026–2028 Strategic Work Plan and his inauguration.

The shipping industry is «at his mercy,» he said, as U.S. President Donald Trump determines the tone and course of the Middle East conflict.

“The war in the Persian Gulf is directly leading to longer transit times and higher costs. If you’re crossing the Strait of Hormuz, you have to use alternative routes, and that means more time and money,” he said.

He noted that the daily cost of operating a ship is a factor, just as “daily fuel consumption has a cost.”

“If it used to take you 20 days and now it’s going to take 40 days, obviously, as an importer, it’s going to impact you. Because you have to pay for something that wasn’t factored in, and it’s not the shipping companies’ fault,” he explained.

The war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran is causing global repercussions and situations that are affecting the entire supply chain, he stated.
