Meta shares soar after it announces premium subscriptions

An announcement released on Wednesday states that Meta will introduce premium subscriptions for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, providing users with more functionality via a platform called «Meta One.»
Users will start to see offers for Facebook and Instagram Plus when Meta launches subscription testing. According to multiple reports, WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99 per month, while Plus will cost $3.99 per month.
As reported by TechCrunch, users who pay for the premium subscriptions will have access to profile customization and detailed information about their stories. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, stated in a video that more features will be added over time.
According to Bloomberg, consumers using Meta’s AI solutions will also be able to subscribe to premium plans, such as Meta One Plus for $7.99 per month or Meta One Premium for $19.99 per month, which offer users higher usage limits, allowing them to assign more complex tasks to their AI assistants.
Meta Verified, which focuses on profile verification and offers protection against identity theft, will not be affected by the new subscriptions, TechCrunch added.
Following the announcement of the subscription plan, Meta’s stock shot up, closing at $635.36, up 3.7%. In the last month, the IT giant’s stock has dropped 6.6%.
Meta’s move to premium memberships coincides with the company’s increased commitment to AI spending. Meta doubled its 2025 outlook and increased its capital expenditure plan by $10 billion to between $125 billion and $145 billion this year. Similar increases in AI spending have been made by a number of other tech corporations, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet.
