The pope got 57.6 million in donations in 2025, with the United States leading the way

According to records released by the organization on Tuesday, St. Peter’s Pence, the fund that gathers contributions from the faithful worldwide to support the pope’s activities. Received a total of 57.6 million euros in 2025, with the United States being the top contributor nation.

Donations accounted for 54.5 million euros of the fund’s total income, while financial returns and other sources contributed 3.1 million euros.

The United States was the largest contributor by geographic region. Accounting for 14.2 million (26.1% of the total) as opposed to 13.7 million in the prior fiscal year.

With 3.1 million euros (5.7%), Italy came in second, and Brazil came in third with 2.1 million (3.9%).

The surprise in the report was the decline in contributions from France. Went from being the second-largest donor in the previous fiscal year, with 8 million euros, to contributing 1.3 million (2.4%) in 2025.

The next positions were held by the Republic of Korea, with 1.5 million euros (2.8%); Germany, with 1.4 million (2.6%); and Spain, with 1.2 million (2.1%).

As for the source of the contributions, the majority of the funds—40.1 million euros—came from dioceses and individuals. While foundations and religious institutes contributed another 14.4 million.

The balance sheet shows that expenses for the fiscal year totaled 59.8 million euros, resulting in a net loss of 2.2 million, due primarily to fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, the agency stated in a press release.

Of the total expenses, 54.5 million euros were disbursed contributions and 5.3 million were financial expenses.

Among the initiatives funded were humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, the construction of school classrooms in India and South Sudan. Also the development of pastoral centers in Sri Lanka, Egypt, and Burkina Faso.

Humanitary Aids

In Europe, the Vatican noted that the funds were allocated primarily to humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine and to scholarships for religious from the Global South.

Furthermore, the 41.2 million euros allocated to the Pope’s apostolic mission covered 10% of the total expenditures of the Holy See’s dicasteries and nunciatures, with special attention given to supporting local churches facing the greatest difficulties and to the dissemination of the papal magisterium.
