US Energy Secretary believes it is unlikely that new oil will be released from strategic stockpiles

In an effort to calm energy markets during the Iran trade war, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on Monday. He believes it is «highly unlikely» that the government will release more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

According to Wright, Washington is thinking about taking more steps to attempt to reduce prices. Such assisting refineries in becoming more efficient and expanding the supply of diesel fuel. In an effort to calm energy markets during the Iran trade war. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on Monday that he believes it is «highly unlikely» that the government will release more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

As part of a larger coordinated release with 32 nations under the International Energy Agency (IEA). The United States declared it will exchange 172 million barrels of crude oil from the Specially Determined Contribution (SDC) in stages.

On Friday night, the Department of Energy announced that it had loaned energy businesses 45.2 million barrels from the SDC. Which is just more over half of the 86 million barrels it had initially pledged.

SDC loans include high surcharges of about 20%, which businesses have to pay back with more oil barrels. According to Wright, the SDC will have more crude oil than the roughly 415 million barrels it presently has by the end of next year as a result of these swaps.
