Volkswagen is considering shifting Golf production elsewhere, and Mexico is in the limelight

According to plans now being reviewed at Volkswagen’s headquarters, the German carmaker is considering relocating Golf production abroad, with Mexico being one of several options.
The business daily «Handelsblatt» reported this, citing people acquainted with the proposals being discussed by Volkswagen’s top management, which is headquartered in Wolfsburg.
The article stresses that Mexico is «one of several scenarios currently being considered» and that «a decision has not yet been made».
Puebla is home to Volkswagen’s largest vehicle manufacturing in Latin America.
The Golf is regarded as one of the most significant core vehicles for the Volkswagen brand.
This mid-range car has already been through eight versions, and it has sold more than 37 million units worldwide, more than any other vehicle.
The German automaker has announced cost-cutting measures, including the closure of at least three facilities in the country.
